M. H. Hood Ellis, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, has over thirty years of legal experience. Serving with distinction in local governments and state organizations, Mr. Ellis has established himself as a top legal mind.
He is married to the former Anne Detgen. Mr. Ellis and his wife, Anne have four children: Holt, Hannah, Britton and Marshall.
Mr. Ellis was admitted to the bar in North Carolina in 1975, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit in 1976.
He serves as Town Attorney for Edenton, NC, and previously for Elizabeth City. He has served as Chairman for the NC State Board of Elections.
He is a member of the First Judicial District Bar (President, 1982-1983), the NC Bar Association (Inductee, General Practice Hall of Fame, 2005), the NC State Bar (Member, Disciplinary Hearing Commission, 2007), and the NC Association of Defense Attorneys. He is a member of the Elizabeth City Rotary Club, and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
