HREM attorney John Leidy has been appointed to the Supreme Court of North Carolina’s Commission on Practice Innovation, a newly established body with statewide representation formed to study and make recommendations to the Supreme Court and the General Assembly on different ways to provide legal services, particularly in rural areas of the State. The Commission’s initial charge is to study alternative and supplemental pathways to bar admission, examine the regulatory framework for paraprofessionals and paralegals, and to assess how both approaches would affect both access to justice and the quality of legal services. Supreme Court Justices Phil Berger, Jr. and Anita Earls serve as Co-Chairs of the Commission.
