About
Lauren is a graduate of Regent University School of Law, and graduated summa cum laude from Elizabeth City State University, majoring in criminal justice. Lauren was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 2009 and began her practice with the First Judicial District’s Public Defender’s office as an Assistant Public Defender, gaining valuable trial experience in both District and Superior Court. In 2012, Lauren was asked to join the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney, where she was primarily responsible for handling Superior Court criminal matters, trying multiple jury trials. Since 2014, Lauren has been in private practice, representing multiple local governmental entities such as Chowan County, Currituck County Board of Adjustment, Camden County Social Services and Chowan County Department of Social Services. Lauren also maintains a busy family law practice assisting clients facing issues of divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support and equitable distribution. Lauren also maintained a general civil litigation practice. Lauren is the former First Judicial District Bar President, currently serves on the Regent University School of Law Board of Visitors and is active in many local organizations. As a partner at Hornthal, Riley, Ellis & Maland, LLP, Lauren will focus her practice representing local governmental entities and assisting clients facing divorce, custody and support issues, as well as handling general litigation matters.
